What are Residencies? OverviewSponsored by Sun Learning Services, SLS Residencies are one to six week-long teaming efforts focused on modeling, validating, and creating labs based on the best practices followed when architecting, implementing and/or managing a Sun solution. Residencies serve as the enabling environment for close, collaborative teaming between Sun experts from various fields. Product engineering, services, sales, and customer professionals bring their unique knowledge and experiences to bear on modeling and capturing technical best practices. This cross-discipline approach serves to integrate availability, serviceability, upgradability, and manageability needs into training deliverables. ResidentsAll residencies are open to engineers dealing with Sun solutions. Eligible participants who are nominated and accepted as residency team members are called residents. Our goal is to have representation from all pertinent disciplines for each residency. Whether employees, partners, or customers, residents are chosen primarily for their practical knowledge and skills within their chosen fields. A subject matter expert (SME) from sales will often bring experience and skills tied to integration and upgradability, while an SME from service will serve as the champion for serviceability needs. Finally, the end users themselves bring expert knowledge on managing the ultimate environment. The selection process for residents is either open or closed. A closed residency has pre-defined residents who are put forward by the residency team. An open residency is open to anyone to participate based on their knowledge and skills. Denial of nomination should always be viewed relative to a specific residency and should never stop an individual from re-applying for other residencies. Roles and ResponsibilitiesAll residents have well-defined roles and responsibilities tied to the ultimate delivery of best practices training. Specific tasks are outlined within the individual residency proposals, but generally a resident is responsible for representing their discipline and incorporating their best practices knowledge, insight, and expertise into the training. Common tasks will include lab development, content review, and lab QA. In addition, lab developers have an on-going responsibility to support their published content within the broader Sun community. This may include moderating a forum, elaborating/ clarifying some point made, responding to a challenge of a particular decision, or even choosing to retire a lab in part or in whole. Availability and VisibilityAvailable residencies can be viewed from the Online Learning Community Portal at the Dashboard. Simply “Subscribe” and the corresponding effort lead will respond on availability. Belongs to: Hello World |
